Dear Vince!
On behalf of the 2003 Conference Committee and the Brain injury association of Wisconsin, I would like to convey our deep appreciation for your recent participation in the 15th Annual Wisconsin Conference on Brain Injury. The conference was extremely well received and a majority of the attendees rated the overall conference quality as "excellent."
Your presentation was a valuable contribution to our overall program. Your involvement assisted our association in its ongoing goal to provide current and comprehensive information concerning acquired brain injury. It also demonstrates your strong commitment to individiuals most affected by brain injury....
...It was wonderful meeting both of you! Vince, you made quite an impact with your wit and honesty.
Sincerely yours,
Patricia G. David, MS, CRC
Conference Committee Chairperson
Director of Operations
From the Brain Injury Association of New Jersey's Summer Newsletter:
The enormously talented Vince Bell entertained, educated and inspired seminar attendees at the 20th Annual Seminar, "Brain Injury: Forging Our Future in Changing Times," with his autobiography and guitar accompaniment presentation of his book, One Man's Music.
Vince spoke and sang about his journey through rehabilitation, recounting the physical and emotional challenges of reclaiming his former life and musical talent. The reconstruction of Vince's "bionic" right arm provided the vision for Vince to invent adaptations for his guitar so that he could once again play the music that is his passion.
As he describes his life both before and after his injury the audience becomes mesmerized in the way he depicts his experiences through his music and humor. Vince shares a large percent of credit for his accomplishments with his family and his wife, Sarah. Their devotion and encouragement was invaluable to his success which is was very apparent
in the words he speaks and the lyrics in his songs.
Vince helps the audience understand that the power to succeed is in each one of us. And it was this power that he drew upon in order to return to the work he loves, his music and his desire to help others.
After his motivational keynote presentation, Vince met with family members and individuals with brain injury to discuss their personal experiences. Vince is an accomplished songwriter of 30 years and he has authored a book, One Man's Music. Austin, Texas Mayor Kirk Watson presents Vince with the Chairman's Commendation from the Austin Mayor's Committee for People With Disabilities, for Vince's book One Man's Music.
In 2001, Vince spent two days at the Brookwood School in Manchester, MA. working with English and Music classes in the middle school, and giving a short concert for the entire student body. Vince wrote from that trip, "I had the whole school in the gymnasium and played "All the Way to the Moon." You'd have loved it. They clapped in time. The kinda noise they made you'da thought I was a relative of the Back Street Boys. I can't tell you how rewarding it is to tell people who want to know."
