July 2008

Mis amigos,

Two great gigs in Oregon. A different picture or photo every five miles getting there...and back...for 3,500 miles throughout the western United States. 750 total artworks making up the next eight video Podcasts with a music bed from the Bend, Oregon Three Pines House Concert show.

Durango and Grand Junction, Colorado. Green River, Provo, and Salt Lake City, Utah. Twin Falls and Boise, Idaho. Baker City, Portland, and Bend, Oregon. Mount Shasta, Sacramento, and Lake Tahoe, California. Carson City, Yerington, and Las Vegas, Nevada. Kingman, and Flagstaff, Arizona. Gallup, Grants, and Albuquerque on the way back to Santa Fe, New Mexico.

It was a privilege to play at both excellently run shows. Things out west will just get better. Sarah and I enjoyed spending the night of each show with Mike and Jan Hollen at the Hill Country West House Concert in Portland, and Sue Peete and Jim Holmes at Three Pines House Concert in Bend. One of my oldest and best buddies, Rich Layton, played harp on the first night. I forgot how good my pal is. Look for him on my next CD.

On the route homeward we spent the night with our favorite Beau Brummel, Sal Valentino and his wife Catherine. We left half the coffee Rich roasted for us. Catherine made rellenos for breakfast to rival the best in the land. Usted va, amiga.

We went back to where we were married in Lake Tahoe at the CalNeva Lodge, and then stayed on the Las Vegas strip at it's ruthless best, wringing the stuffing out of every wallet, or pocketbook, within bankrupting distance. The morning after that fleecing we crossed Hoover Dam at dawn.

On interstate 40, the most used roadway since ROUTE 66, we counted double decker trains for a day across two southwestern states as we climbed back up into the Rocky Mountains for home.

Let the dance

begin.
